Data Gathering and Interpretation Part 2

In Part 1 of this podcast, Dr. Paul Tripp discussed how interpretation is critical to the counseling process especially in making sense of the data that comes with knowing a person. This week he discusses why your counsel must be more than situational and relational fixes. It must be a result of looking at a person’s story through the lens of the biblical story.

This audio is from the Distance Ed version of Helping Relationships taught by Paul Tripp. This class is designed to focus on the person who is counseling, the process of counseling, and the critical skills necessary to effect change. It focuses on how to bring the person and work of the Redeemer to people in the midst of their problems. It is offered 5 times a year through Distance Ed: August, Oct, Jan, April, and June. Ed Welch also teaches this class in PA in the Spring.

Data Gathering and Interpretation Part 1

How do we make sense out of all that we hear in counseling?

How do we understand what the Bible says to the drama of a particular moment in a person’s life?

Every form of counseling gathers data about a person. And all data gathering needs interpretation to make it worthwhile. It’s the interpretation of the things we get to know about a person that shapes what we say and do in ministry to another. In this two part series, Paul Tripp invites us to think of ministry as a bridge that connects the shore of the Truth of the word of God and the shore of the truths about this person’s reality.

Low Self-Esteem: A Case Study Part 2

In Part 1 of this podcast, Dr. David Powlison introduced us to Jimmy who is a man classified as suffering from “low self-esteem.” He challenges us to think through how descriptions, masquerading as explanations, often persuade us that they have the truth about understanding people. This week he will discuss why the self-esteem worldview “appears” to create success stories and why the biblical understanding of self-evaluation goes deeper and beyond rehabilitating the fear of man.

This audio is from the Theology and Secular Psychology class. In this class you learn the skills to love others wisely by truly understanding how they think and put their world together.  It is being offered through CCEF’s Distance Education in June of 2010.  Other classes offered in June are: Dynamics of Biblical Change , Helping Relationships [add link to , Counseling in the Local Church [add link, and Marriage Counseling. Please click here to view the DE course schedule for when these courses are also offered additional times of the year.
